Can my wife apply EAD now?

We filed I140 and I485 concurrently in Dec 2002, but we didn't apply EAD and AP at that time becaue both of us had H1B visa. My wife is a dependent applicant.

My wife's company is not running well, so it is very possible that she will be laid off in near future. Can she apply EAD seperately right now to be a backup of H1B even if I don't apply EAD?

I apprecaite your reply and any suggestions.

If she gets EAD approved, will H1B be canceled autimatically? I heard that as long as EAD is kept in your hands and not used, H1B is still valid, but I am not sure if it is right.
