Can i work on a B2 visa?

I'm currently in the US on a B1/B2 visa, with B2 status, so I know that I can't work. Now, a company is offering me a job position and they will sponsor my H1B but first they want me to work for them during a trial period (2 months) before the contract and H1B process. I can stay until May this year, so the staying here for 2 months is not a problem but I'm not supposed to work, they mentioned to work as a consultant. Is there a legal way to do this?

H3 ?

Can you not ask the company to get H3 (Trainee) visa for you ? A premium processing might take just 15 days.....and while on H3, they can work on your H1B ?

Well, from what I've read (in non-official sites) about H3, it would be rather difficult because the company that trains you is not supposed to do it for recruitment purpose, so it would provoke a conflict for the petition of the change of state to H1. I'm still going to keep on researching about this. Thanks for the alternative.
