Can I travel abroad without AP?

I am waiting for my AP but I still have not answer. I applied here in the USA.

My plan is to travel on december 26th because I quitted my job in my country and I need to do the 2 weeks notice. I think is ethically correct do the 2 weeks notice after work for that company for almost ten years (I want to keep a good reference).

Can I wait for my AP in my country?

Under dire circumstances yes. But INS web site says that you have to have the AP before leaving US. If you do not have any other valid visa/stamp(h1 etc.) in your passport and you are relying on AOS as your status, then better wait for your AP.

I have a valid visa (Tourist/Business)...

and I am changing my status to "V" (this status is for spouses of Legal Permanent Resident to come here to the USA, work and wait for the green card).
