Can I take part-time college classes with TN?

You can take full time school if you want. there is no need to get another status of student visa, if you do you will not able to work except with the permission of school.

in other words you can't have a source of income other then the employer mentioned on your TN. beside that take school, college, university whatever....

Courses, or even a full program, are considered "incidental" to your TN status. So as long as you continue to fulfill the requirements of your TN, you are fine.

fire, you cut your I-485 filing awfully close to your TN expiry date. We suggest 4-5 months here, not 9 weeks!

Do you have vacation planned starting Dec 17th? with all the holidays coming I would not expect you would get EAD before january.

I have faith in the system... and yeah, I'd be fine with a little time off, too...

I didn't plan on it being submitted this late, but it worked out that way. Have my biometrics appointment scheduled for Nov. 14th, but I think I read about people just going in to have it done prior to the appointment. That is what I am looking into now.

If you really need to keep working, you could always submit an I-129 for a new TN in December. It has no hope of being approved of course, but while they are deciding, you can use the grace period to keep working. this would not be considered a frivolous petition.

If I were you, once August rolled around I would have submited an I-129, well before submitting my I-485

But on the other thread you suggessted that you should file 485 until 45 days passed after you get your new TN. In other words if I get my new TN on January 2, 2008, I should apply for 485 until Feb 15.

Thats the reason I didn't send my TN in mid october when I was ready to file my 485, because I didn't want to wait 45 days.

-----
I-130/I-485 ect. sent - 10/22/2008
Forms rec'd - 10/25/2008
Checks cashed - ??
...
TN expiration - 2/10/2009

What, you have a doppelganger now?

How long have you been married? Notice I said, file I-129 in AUGUST. That would have fit the timeline.

If I said "get my new TN" anywhere, this would have referred to a border petition. I typically refer to a mail-in TN as 'receiving TN approval'. There is no link to any waiting period and wht CIS does. The 45 days refers to the time between actions YOU take. (ie. FILING and I-129 or CROSSING the border on TN or GETTING a TN at the border -- and then subsequently FILING an I-485)

It certainly depends on the school for the fees they charge, though it would be wise to be prepared, just in case. I was surprised by that myself since, although 'temporary' in nature, I've resided here since 2000. Plus, I meet almost every criteria for colleges in California (according to a guide they created and posted).

The last time I got my TN (all were obtained either at the Buffalo POE or San Ysidro POE), the San Ysidro officer told me that was my last. He said it was no longer considered temporary. He wasn't in a good mood that day and said I was just as bad as the people crossing the borders concealed in a trunk. I go there prepared for certain questions, yet this approach took me off guard. I handled it well and got the TN but he was still an a-hole. Yeah, I still could have applied for it by mail this year, but time went by pretty fast and procrastination appears to have gotten the better of me. I will protect myself with a letter from my employer that indicates I am no longer eligible for work. Then... vacation time! That sounds pretty good since I used up almost all of my vacation time for the wedding and honeymoon (which I also went against recommendations and took a cruise to Central America).

I feel okay about how it went. The story (and for the most part, truth) is that we weren't sure where we wanted to live, (ie Canada/USA). We got married (110% legit), and had a wonderful honeymoon. Now, since I am facing the end of my TN in the US (and since I had never intended to immigrate I was still on TN), we have decided to stay here - resulting in us filing the appropriate paperwork. Filing right after the honeymoon would have indicated I was probably an intended immigrant when I told the officer I was returning to California to continue working (on TN). I should have filed a month or two sooner, but it didn't work out that way. Maybe I'm living in a dream land, but I feel alright about the situation (and look forward to a little vacation!).

Sorry for hijacking the thread!

Forget that! The mere fact that you were married to a Yank living in US was enough to have you denied and sent packing! You shouldn't even have been allowed in on tourist status, never mind TN. You needed a K visa to come in.

You are one lucky SOB.
