Can I still get OCI if I can't find Indian passport

Hello,

I need an OCI. So I need to get the renunciation certificate. Is it advisable to get the renunciation certificate without surrendering the Indian passport? I mean if I can't find my Indian passport, the travisa site does say that I can sign an 'lost affidavit' instead of producing the passport.

1. Will there be any problems later on if I get the renunciation certificate / OCI this way?

2. What if later I do find my 'lost' passport? I mean I am not going to travel on the Indian passport. I will travel only on my US passport. But will possession of the Indian passport cause any problems?

------------ if you have lost the passport then go according to Travisa site.

-------------Why the Problems??? you may have to give them evidence of you being Indian Citizen in past Or your parents being Indian Citizen. Read the OCI Eligiblity.
