Can I/Should I voluntarilychange jobs? --Please help

I have a few questions regarding my 485 process and AC-21 portability. Here is my status:

1. 485 receipt date Jan 31, 2004
2. EAD and AP received in March 2004
3. Fingerprints done April 2004
4. EAD/AP expiring on March 10, 2004.
5. H-1 expiring March 2005

I am planning to change jobs (voluntary) and move to another company in the same city with similar job description.

My question is what all documents I need and which things I need to be sure of before using AC-21 for the job change. Also is it advisable to change companies now and could it affect my Green Card prospects adversely?

The second set of questions is regarding the EAD, since I haven't applied for renewal yet. So if my EAD extension doesn't come before the current one expires, what are my options? There aren't 90 days between now and my EAD expiry.

I appreciate your help. Please share your insights. I am really in a dilemma right now. Thanks again.

Changing jobs won't effect your GC prospects as long as you change to same/similar job city doesn't matter and your I140 is approved and I485 is pending for more than 180 days . You need a EVL from your new employer stating your tile,salary , job description and date of hire which you can chose to or not to inform USCIS about the job change.

Apply for EAD renewal ASAP. or apply for H1 extension whether it is 7 th year or whatever but since you are planning to change jobs i would apply for EAD renewal ASAP . Check this thread for docs if you want to apply for your self it is pretty straight forwad

CIS is approving EAD's at decent rate so you might be able to get your renewal before the current one expires. If your H1 expires and your EAD renewal is pending then you can't work and hence no pay and your status might also be in question unless you apply for H1 extension. If you are willing to take that hit they you can wait if not apply for renwal ASAP

---------------- what about your I-140?? it is approved or not??? if I-140 is approved then only change the employer or wait till I-140 gets approved

------- if possible try to get approved LC copy particulary form ETA750A becase it has your job duties or skills in item 13, copy may be with lawyer, get also I-140 filing reciept and I-485 filing reciept

----- appply now ASAP better paper file, send color copy of your passport first page, color copy of Driving licence, I-485 filing reciept copy, 2 Photographs (NEW PASSPORT STYLE) fill up form I-765 with correct info, pay USCIS fees and send it to correct address. you may get EAD depends on your service senter
*** OR file H1 extension and then change the employer
OR join new employer with H1 transfer

Changing jobs volntarily using AC -21

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, my I-140 was approved in May of 2003.
