Can I request Interviewer to postpone Oath so that I can travel overseas in-between Interview & Oath

Hi Friends,

My and my wife's interview is on May 30. If we wait for oath which normally is within 10 days then we will have to apply for expedited Passport (Additional Fees), Expedited India visa fee for two of us (something like $600-800) and a it will take of 2 to 4 weeks. That will take us to End June. However this can be avoided if we have sufficient time to travel to India between interview and oath.

We wish to travel in first week of June to India so that we can come back in Early July. By August Mid, we need to sell our house which we are holding only for citizenship and relocate to Boston for my son's high school.

Here are my questions to kind and wise people on board:

1. If my interview in End May is successful, can I request IO to postpone my oath date to End July?? Do they agree to such requests. In this case I can still travel overseas on Indian passport. No hasstle of India visa etc. time and money saved. Upon return, we can take oath and apply for US Passport and live happily ever after (hopefully ;-) )

2. As we need to change our address from Chicago to Boston within one month of Oath ceremony, Can we apply for Passport once we change the address. Will there be something in Naturalization certificate (Chicago address) which will preclude us from applying for passport from Boston address? What is the procedure.

I want to avoid two iterations i.e. first applying from Chicago address for passport and then after relocating to Boston, applying change of address in Passport.

Suggestions are highly appreciated.

Regards to All.

1)Yes, you can request IO to schedule oath only after you return in July.
2)You can apply for passport either before or after your move as long as you receive mail at the address you indicate on passport form. There's no separate address change form required for passport.

Thanks Bobsmith for quick response. Here are sequels for you:

1. So that means, at the end of my interview, I can request interviewer to hold my oath letter until he hears back from me. If this is the case, how do I contact interviewer upon return. I understand they normally don't entertain walkins to interview center. Will he be willing to give me his phone number or e-mail ID??

2. I find it strange that underneath passport there is no permanent address?? and changing address doesn't matter!! but if you say, it must be true.

1) Not until he hears back from you but rather until after your return to US in July. You tell IO at interview that you will only return to US in early July. The IO will note that your oath should be scheduled after early July.

2) People move all the time. The state department would be bombarded with address change requests if it was a requirement to notify them of your change of address every time.
