My NP expired two years ago and getting a new one from home country consulate is impossible . On the new passport form there are many questions specific to Asylum and it need to be notarized. They want to make sure that the applicant has not applied for asylum in US.
Now i am planning to go to home country for a short visit in the next year, since i got my GC now. Do you think i can apply for visa on Entry permit. What are the chances? Is there a better advice? I mean otherwise i got to wait 5 years for my citizenship. BTW my home country is India.

how is Indian consulate or govermnt going to find out that u were in asylum status? do u think USCIS gonna give them your personal info .it doesnt make sence. :confused:u should just say that u got your GC.just ignore all that application questions.First of all indian consulate will never grant u viza on your travel document. They might grant u viza only in purpose to arest u backhome for betraying the country if u get a viza from country of persecution on your travel document USCIS might revoke your GC. u can be also injailed for immigration fraude and deported. :eek:If u dont have serious intensions of vizit.so consult with attorney it is really serious matter.

well....it is not likely that u can get a visa on your reentry permit uneless u know someone inside.....obviously if u are indian, u should have a NP...if u dont...then u got a problem...people may wonder why cannt u bring your NP?
Also...i think they should know what AS6 is if they really care about ppl appy for asylum

Asylee13,

Try to avoid this NP problem, but you can still visit India. Check previous threads that mentioned the guy went to Nepal and ride a bus ( not by air ) to India. Or, ask your parents to Nepal or Bangledash for your meeting.

Is your GC backdated as Sept 2004 or Dec 2004 ?

First of all on Rentry permit, it will say Country of Birth as India and the consulate will ask you to use your NP since you do not need a visa. Also don't take any risks entering from Nepal. Indian Immigration and anything Indian police is very nasty..do not get stuck with them. THey will make sure they get enough money out of you or make sure you are dead. I speak with experience..I went on RTD to India and I am telling you, it was the worst experience of my life. I was treated as a Terrorist from the point of entry until I left...the cops where You had to register once you enter(every refugee has to or you cant exit out of the country) wanted money to put a stamp on my passport...My father-in-law who is Indian did pay him because he didnt' want any trouble for me...

Beware!

You can still renew your NP eventhough it's expired 2 years ago. When they asked about your status in the U.S, just tell them you're out of status. they're not gonna do anything about it.

that's what i did, although i'm not from India.

Oh, you might want to just give your consulate a call, ask questions: I would like to renew my passport that was expired 2 years ago, but i'm out of status, blah, blah, blah. see what they have to say.

Good luck!

Tell me what would you do with a new passport from like this ( attached) and on top of that they are asking to notarize that i have not applied for asylum. They ask for my address in India. All the traps focussed only for Asylees. What do you think?

Were you really persecuted in India and did you just make something up to gain asylum, huh?

I wouldn't even think about it.
They are really against to whatever you have done so far (Granted Asylum status) {From whatever I see in the form} so think about something else man, dont put yourself in danger,
even If they give you new pass port (If yo lie) then they will take you down in India.
Forget it
The thing I dont understand, what makes you go back over there? is it more important than your life here?
Visit who ever you one, in some other countries,

Good Luck

man just go visit your people in third country.
india is country of exception ..they even give hard time to people with dual citizenship.
believe me time go fast ..just be patient and brave and focus on getting your citizenship.
I'm from african country..and I'm allready made my choice :never go back to my home country.
I manage to see my family in third country..get married and plan ahead for citizenship.
and like I said time go fast ...just stay focus in your future..

I don't want to go home for fun. I just want to see my old mother and family once. Ours is a big family(15 members). There is no way for all family to go to neighboring country and meet. I don't think i can wait for 5 more years for my citizenship. It is so important that i am ready to risk my life once.
But, nasrmobin, i agree with you. All they have to do is issue the passport and send the passport number to IO in india , which can take me down in india. It may happen ...it may not happen.

To Devi Dewata,
I am curious - when you renewed your NP and you told the consulate that you were out of status, they did not do anything? And they still issued the passport?

You mind if I ask what country you are from?

thanks!
