Can I get GC stamped on an expired passport?

My son will get married soon but his passport is expired and the consulate says will take a year to have the new one. I know that @ one point (probably interview) the local office can stamp the passport with a temporary GC till the real one arrives (I ASSUME FOR TRAVEL PURPOSES).

So the question is if there'll be any problem NOT HAVING THE PASSPORT current (like I said he's not planning to travel at all till he has his Green Card ID)

Thanks!

Rafa

Yes you can get your expired passport stamped if approved at interview. They may or may not stamp it at the interview. (They did mine) but if they don't then you may have to wait for the actual card. I hope the best for you.

I thought if you had an experied passport they didn't stamp it?

Stamps are rare these days anyway, I was told on no uncertain terms that they "didn't do that any more" when I asked for a stamp. Of course it varies from DO to DO.

As far as I know, expired passports are not stamped. I have seen I-94's been given with a I-551 stamp to those with expired passports.
