Can I file I-485 w/o I-130 approved?

I filed the I-130 for my parents. I have only received the receipt notice. Can I file the I-485 without the I-130 approval?

Did you file I-485 using I-130 receipt?

I am in same situation. My parents I-130 is pending and I-94 expire in April 2010. If I-130 approval doesn't come in time might have to file I-485 using pending I130 receipt.
