Hi:

No, you cannot extend it. You should all enter the US before expiration of the visa. You can then return to tie up any loose ends you might have.

Best wishes.

theoretically, it can be "extended" in the sense, that you will be able to receive a new visa (before the original one expires), but only if you pay again and if visas are still available for your country, and if you have to get it before September 30.

Since strict conditions apply, not very many people opt to "extend" it.

Do you know what the usual time frame you have to tie up loose ends like finishing your job etc after you've entered first and then gone back 'home'?

It was very simple for us.If your all the papers ,I mean all the documents are correct then straight way you will get visa. The consular asked me "When are u finish your Master's and then what's your plan? That's it.

not al lthe time. Some people are subject to a security check which may last a long time.

for absenses upto a year long, you don't need anything but your GC and proof that you are permanently residing in the States. You cannot work outside the States (except for a few exceptions) once you become a permanent resident. For absenses longer than 1 year you need to get a reentry permit.

You should tie up the ends before entering the US - that's why the visa is valid for 6 months.
