Can I call USCIS to find out?

You don't have to call the USCIS. You can call the FBI directly and they'll tell you whether or not your FPs have been processed. The number is (304) 625-5590.

Vorpal,

My fingerprints were cleared back in May but I'm still waiting for the NC to be complete. Where can I find out status of an NC? The fbi rep says they don't normally provide any more information about NC...

Thanks in advance.

i just called because i got curious too. And FBI told me they sent the results electronically to USCIS on 07/19 ... and the wait continues :(

The FBI rep is correct, as they don't give out name check information to anyone other than the client (USCIS). To find out your NC status, you can either schedule an InfoPass appointment or you can call the USCIS and "convince" the service rep (using one of the tricks frequently discussed on this forum) to transfer you to an IO. One such trick is to call the 800 line and tell the rep that you applied for naturalization over a month ago, but still haven't gotten your receipt. That'll trigger an automatic transfer to an IO.

Vorpal, thanks for the quick response! Just did what you suggested and got hold of an IO. She said they're still waiting on the NC from the FBI. I couldn't elicit any additional information from her even after highlighting the fact that the FBI fingerprints were returned back on May 22. Would an Infopass appointment yield more information about the NC, in your opinion? Or does it normally prompt some action on the file - especially if the Philly DO is just sitting on an FBI response?

Thanks again.

Sounds like you may be stuck in name check. I'd suggest calling a couple of more times and talking to different IOs, as some of them don't know how to properly use the system and will give you any answer just to get you off the phone. Scheduling an InfoPass won't really yield any information that you can't obtain over the phone. If your name check is still pending, then there's nothing that the USCIS can or will do to expedite it.

Not what I wanted to hear but I do appreciate your response! Thanks - it helps being able to pick the brains of a veteran like yourself :) My personal congratulations to you.

Thank you!

Good luck in your journey. If the FBI really does stick to its goals, your name check shouldn't take as long as some other ones I've seen on this forum.

FBI said FP were cleared the same day (7/1/08). They also stated that the section resoinsible for the name check doesn't talk to the public.

See my response to po1234wq for information on how to find out your name check status.

I called USCIS re: the name check clearance....

The standard answer was given: "You are still within the standard processing time... the L.A. DO is working on 7/12/07 cases... blah.....blah....blah..."

So much for that... Maybe information officers should check with this forum once in a while to see what's really going on! ;)

i checked the thread about the name check experience i found couple of phone numbers for the NNCP program. supposedly it is to check the status of you name check. I called and i got a recording that FBI will no longer respond to email, fax, phone or mail inquires regarding name check status and if i have any question i need to go to www.fbi.gov

great, so its been over 2 month since my FP. should i start to worry yet or am i still in good shape?

iluvfra congrats

so it shows that you are still pending name check but you got your IL?

is that usual?
