Can I become a passive partner with H1B?

I am working under H1B since 2003 with the same company. I just want to invest in a partnership as a passive partner. Would this affect my status or it would be considered as any other investment?

Thanks in advance!

Investment is allowed as long as your are not actively involved in running the business. So if you are a passive partner it will be considered as an investment.

Partner in a business while on H1B

Hi,

I am on an H1B and just filed for my 485 with my employer.
I am also a partner in another LLC(50-50) with another partner who has GC.

I perform minimal work on voluntary basis for the business(signing payment checks and contracts - once a month). Rest of the work is taken care of by the other parnet who has GC. I have inversted some money but have not withdrawn any salary or any profits from the business

My question is,
1. would being a partner in a LLC business
2. and performing some work voluntarily

cause any issues with my GC processing ( through my current employer)?

Any advice/help/reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

1. would being a partner in a LLC business is legal2. and performing some work voluntarily NO. Signing papers onbehalf of company is not a passive investment, it is an active one, you may get sued. Your active participation is not advisable . Just invest money take profit or loss, not signing any papers on behalf of the company.(Do not represent the company by any way.

How about partnering with a Incorpoated?

Great Guru,

Same situation...as mentioned in this post by samkap...but can i be a partner with some other INC (Incorporated company/firm) instead of LLC while i'm currently working for other employer under H1B + I-485 pending.

OK.
Give only your partner ship capital, thats all. Recieve only profit/loss. Should not represent Inc by any means.
