can F1 get paid on website ads commisions?

I have F1 status now. I want to get commissions from showing ads in
my websites for example, google adsense, fastclick etc.
I'll receive payment / check periodically. I will need to input my Social
Securty Number for the affiliate (google, fastclick etc)

my questions is : is it legal to do it?

Use this logic.
Holding F1 without work authorization you can not work. You should not be any employer's payroll. (your income is passive one from web)

Per IRS, whatever the money you earn, you have to pay tax.
Are you satisfying both conditions, then go for it.

thanks for comment, until now i don't know what is IRS.

I used to receive checks for that commissions.

btw one of my major affiliate is based on UK.
they say don't worry about SSN, seems they put it on the form just for
their personal record and nothing to do with tax.

question : can immigration track me if i clear the check?

probably, not. It's not considered employment, since you are not working, but it is income, so you have to file a tax declaration and declare it as income.
