Can abandoned residency be revived?

Can someone advice on this. My mother-in-law had a green card, but she had since left the U.S. 6 years ago for our home country. I assume that the permanent residency is therefore deemed abandoned at this time. However my sister-in law wants to come to the U.S. Is there a process where she can apply based on her mother's previous residency? Can my mother-in-law revalidate her residency such that the daughter can benefit from that in obtaining U.S. visa?
Can someone please advise if there is any hope for my sister-in-law through this route. Thanks

Your MIL can try to apply for SB1, not a good chance, but a route for getting back the GC. I don't know how your SIL will benefit from your MIL's GC status.

Even if her GC is active (which is not the case), the SIL can not be benifited from her mother's GC status. The GC holder should be a US citizen first. The other route for GC holder to sponsor an adult (>21 years old) is much more difficult to impossible. Suppose your MIL revived her gc (which is almost impossible now), she should stay in US for 5 years to apply for citizen after which she can sponsor her daughter.

Permanent residents CAN sponsor their children under the second family sponsored preference (though the wait time, especially for unmarried children over 21 is extremely long), providing that permanent residency is currently active and hasnt been abandoned.

FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES

First: Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.

Second: Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent
Residents: 114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, and any unused first preference numbers:

A. Spouses and Children: 77% of the overall second preference limitation, of which 75% are exempt from the per-country limit;

B. Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older): 23% of the overall second preference limitation.

However, there is the possible abandonment issue with MIL's greencard which is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible to rectify.
