Folks,

I got this e-mail reply from FBI:

Thank you for your inquiry,

We received both fingerprint submissions on 10-3-2009, they were processed the same day, and sent to the Name Check Division for further processing.

Thank you,
Id# 10935

Who does this name check and how long does it take? I had done my FP on 9/24 and they recieved it on 10/3. I was under impression that USCIS sends the finger prints over immediately, but it took them 10 days in my case.

I had the same question, what the heck is a name check and how long does it take? My FP was also on 9/24 and they recieved it back from the FBI on 10/3. Can someone out there answer the question above? Thank you.

The name check is separate from the fingerprints. Name check could take from 10 days to 3 months maybe more.

IT didn't take 10 days they just sent it late on 10/3 ten days after. We've seen cases like this lately were the fingerprints are sent a few days later. I don't think it means anything other than that's how they handle it at the processing center.

Fingerprinting --> They match your paw prints with the criminal finger print database at FBI, or against other agencies.

Name Check --> The FBI Name Check for an individual involves a search of the FBI’s Central Records System Universal Index for any appearance of the name of the individual, as well as close phonetic variants and permutations of that name, in any of the records stored in the Universal Index. If any such occurrences are found, the Name Check also involves retrieval and analysis of the relevant paper and electronic files from local FBI offices and from other law-enforcement agencies.
