Big problem - advice anyone?

I'm a green card holder. Haven't been in the country for 18 months. I'm in Canada right now. I applied for reentry, but have not received a decision as of yet. I believe it will be a no, since I applied when I was not in the country anymore.

Now I'm in a situation where I have to get into the US next month. I was thinking of just taking my chances and driving up to the border. Could also take the train if it makes more sense.
I know my situation sucks. I'm looking for advice on what's the best way to handle my situation if any. Not looking to get a list of dry details such as "after 12 months you're screwed" since I already know that.
I'm looking for creative ideas. What do I have to lose if I simply try to cross the border with my car?

Thank you very much

I would suggest that you surrender the green card voluntarily and officially, so that you'll be able to visit the US more easily in the future. Don't wait for them to forcibly revoke it.
