Best Rout

Hey guys,

Once I get my citizenship, what is the fastest way to get my wife who is backhome? I heard that if you stay with her for 3 months backhome, it gets done fast....thank u all for suggestion.

There are two basic routes, given that (DCF) direct consular filing has been all but eliminated.

i. Consular Processing (CP): approximately 9 months end to end. First you file the I-130, and then you follow though the ping pong paper pushing exercise with NVC. Eventually your wife's local US consulate calls her for interview and issues a DS-230 immigrant visa. Once you wife arrives in the US with the immigrant visa, it is automatically converted into a GC.

ii. K-3 visa: approximately 6-9 months for K-3 followed by ~6 months AOS after arrival in the US. First you file I-130, then you file I-129F to start the K-3 process. Once the K-3 is issued by the local US consulate, you wife may travel to the US and file I-485 for adjustment of status.

Theoretically option ii should be much quicker, but these days the delays in K-3 processing are slowing things so that K-3 and CP can take nearly the same length of time. Bear in mind too, that K-3 is much more expensive than CP.

That depends on where backhome is.

Yes, I guess I conveniently "forgot" to mention the 3rd (legally questionable) option of getting her into the US on a tourist visa then applying for I-485. Harder to implement if you are already married when she tried to enter the US.

I wanted to know the home country for two reasons. DCF is still alive in some places, and secondly, the local US consulate load can be gauged.
