Here is my N-400 interview experience at Albany,NY DO.

Interview appointment was at 11:00 AM and I arrived at the DO at around 10:35 AM. I was called in at 11:45 AM.

The IO asked me to rise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. All information on the application was verified and then came the civics test.

Here are the questions asked(If someone cares:) )

1.How many stars on the flag?
2.Name of the ship that brought pilgrims?
3.First president of the the United States?
4.Major political parties in the US?
5.Official name of the President's residence?
6.Executive branch of the government?

Got them all right. :)

I was asked to write the following sentences:

1. I went to the post office today.
2. You cook very good.

The IO asked me to print my name on the photographs. While I was printing my name the IO was busy marking something on the application. I was done printing my name give the photographs back and the IO told me "What did you do? You are supposed to print your name along the side of the photograph vertically" I had printed my name along the bottom of the photograph horizontally. The IO asked me to get new photographs and was also kind enough to direct me to the nearest studio where I can get the photographs. There was a big smile on the IO face as we walked towards the door and told the security to let me in straight when I return with the photos.

I drove for about 10 minutes found a studio and returned with the photographs. Walked straight to the IO and handed over the photos. I printed my name again(this time I got it right). I was given the approval letter and also the oath letter(just the oath letter and not the oath itself) for taking the oath on 01/26/07.

I was out of the DO and all this took about 50 minutes(including me driving to the studio for the photographs).

Good luck to you all.

Congrats, but what the hell is up with these photographs and signing the back? I've been hearing other people having similar issues about signing the back of the photo? I'll have to make sure I ask them exactly how to sign it before I write on it. Good thing I have just gotten an extra set of photos for my interview...

congrats masterUSA,

I had my interview on Feb in Albany, hoped to have everything on the same day, .....still waiting. stuck with namecheck....also moved all the files to NYC. so waiting waiting. I guess I have too much patience.

It is better if I could show what I mean through a graphic but let me try my best to explain in words.

Let us assume you are looking at your photograph's front side showing the face. When the IO asks you the print your name you are supposed to print the name along the right hand side-edge of the photograph. Your printed name should run parallel to your head and ears in the photograph(I hope you can image that)

What I did was to print the name along the bottom-edge of the photograph and my name was running just below my chin in the photograph. This is not correct.

Is this clear?

I think I have an idea. It just seems they don't show you how to do it when you're there. I've just heard several other people complaining that they signed their names wrong and had to wait to get new photos (similar to yours) done again...

In my opinion always ask the IO how the name should be printed by running your finger along the edge of the photograph and confirm that is how the name should be printed.

Not a big deal if you have spare set of photographs with you. In my case I had none. I just took the documents that were asked. Green Card & Passport. I had my DL in the wallet anyway.

The IO apologized for not clearly explaining to me how the name should be printed and assumed that I understood what was being said.

Hope this helps.

You cook very good.

Are you sure that's what you had to write -- it's not even English ("good" is an adjective that is supposed to be modifying the verb "cook"). It should be "You cook very well".

Oh well, this from the government agency that seems to believe that "deschedule" is a word.

Grrrr.

You could be right. I suppose she asked me to write "You cook very well" and I wrote so. I must not have been careful enough to recollect all the details. I hate to say someone has their language messed up when I cannot recollect exactly what I was asked to write.

Congrats

I'm going to get my interview at Albany as well.

What was the interviewer like (nice, pain in the butt etc.)
Did they grill you about your employment history?

The IO who interviewed me was very nice. The IO was smiling from the moment I was called in. My case was straight forward in the sense I had no long international trips, no break in employment, no problem with law enforcement, no problem with the immigration department, no other issues that may call for a potential red-flag. Not much was asked about my employment either.

So it was smooth. Good luck with your interview.

Any dresscode for interview?

Remember you are being called for an interview. So it goes without saying that you should present yourself in the possible attire. The IO will see you before he/she will talk to you. It is always better to give a good first impression and hope that will prevent any minor pitfalls from snowballing into huge issues.

If you are a man then wear a nice business suit and if you are a women wear nice business attire. Bottom line, drive home the point that you are serious about this interview and you mean it.

Avoid small talk with the IO. Greet them graciously and smile no matter how disappointed you are with their service so far into the process.

That's my 2 cents guys.

I am surprised that the same DO does not work the same way for all applicants.

I was given the oath letter on the spot following the interview and the oath ceremony is in the Albany Court House on Broadway in Albany.

Guilderland man,

Can you post your interview experience or give me a pointer to it?

I live in downtown Albany and have just done my FP so I'm interested
to know how Albany DO handle the N400.

Did they ask for any unusual documentation?
