Bad Weather on date of Interview

Question - what to do if the weather is inclement on the day of interview?
There's a possibility of snowstorms etc for those of us having AOS interviews in winter.
1) how do you find out if the DO is open and doing business as usual
2)Who do you contact

As we all know non-appearance at the interview is considered abandonememnt of the application  So what measures should one take to ensure the interview is not considered abandoned, and would you have to contact them to reschedule ?

this happened to anyone before? Advice appreciated :)

I'd call them.

I would imagine that an office like that would have a recorded message in case of inclement weather. But then, I've been known to be wrong about government offices!:D

Great question...I was thinking the same. I would call also. Let's see what someone else has to say.

In the case of an AOS interview, I would suggest that you find out if there is a hotel or motel nearby (within walking distance). If you find one, then stay at that motel and forget about driving that morning. In case, if you miss the interview who knows how long it will take for them to schedule another interview. On the other hand if the weather does not permit you to keep your appointment on a day, call immediately and reschedule your interview. So it all depends on your priorities. Good Luck.

You can call USCIS costumer service and check with them. There is no "public" way to contact your DO. :p

Yes, that's exactly the problem. you can't call your DO directly. I'm not too confident about USCIS having up-to-date info for a particular DO.

I imagine letting a USCIS customer agent know you have an interview that day and can't get there, and them never relating the facts to the DO. Especially since your case would already be dispatched to your DO for interview.

Also, you'd then be back in line waiting for a re-scheduled interview, wouldn't you?

Don't understand how priorities come into this. I don't think anyone is putting their interview as a lower priority to anything else. Just the fact that we're considering all possibilities shows how high on the priority list this is.

Good idea though to have motel/hotel as a contingency plan.

For me, I will try to get there even if it is bad weather, glad I get interviewed on sunny morning.

It is so sad to get back to the waiting line for reschedule, that happened to my cousin also caused by bad weather.

I would turn up at the DO regardless of how bad the weather is. Look at the worst case scenario. Someone on the phone tells you that the office will be closed but in reality it is not on that day. Then you will receive a notice in the mail informing you that you failed to turn up at your interview!!!

I guess after paying so much money to get to the point of an interview. $100 bucks or so shouldn't be a bad idea for a hotel/motel within walking distance.

Taxi, Taxi

I guess a Taxi would also help....I wouldn't miss an AOS interview for bad weather...

thus, a hotel/motel plus taxi is definitely a good idea.

Still, I like the idea of walking to the USCIS building - you never know when a taxi shows up (or not)

Would you believe that it was actually snowing on my interview date? We managed to get there as it was only 1-2 inches, and the interview officers had left!!

So when I started this thread, I really should have been worrying about the interview officers sticking around - not us getting there!

no info about a closing on USCIS site, no phone call, nothing. I imagine we were among the last couples scheduled for that day (interview was at 3pm) so a phone call would have been nice. They left at 2:20pm
