Background Check!!!???

Hi,
My fiancee is a DV 2015 selectee with CN AF00019***. I guess she should be scheduled Dec or Jan. We did fill her DS260 in May. However, the person whose address we provided on DS260 tells us USCIS contacted her and asked for $200 to run a background check on her. I am shocked because I never heard of that. Is that even possible? Please help. I am going nuts!
 
Thanks for replying Susie. I personally filled the form for her and I am very secretive about such things. I have always thought if there was a scam involved, it is with the girl she plans to go live with because ever since we asked her the favour, she had mentioned that. I argued with her for a while and she insisted. I just let it go back then in May hoping she just got things wrong but now she claims USCIS personally called her, and me knowing such a thing does not exist, I don't know what to do now.
 
Like Susie said, it's nothing but a scam. The girl is trying to scam you guys. USCIS never does what she's claiming, never!
 
Like Susie and Mom said, definitely a scam! My advise to you and your fiance, find another person you trust in the U.S. and use their address instead. You don't want your GC to end up in the hands of such a person.

Ah I didn't even think it might be the girl herself doing the scam! You're right, it couldn't be anyone else! :eek:

Agree with Sammy! Find someone else you can trust for GC etc. Don't worry about telling her or changing the DS form, just change the details at the interview.
 
You know my fear was coming from the thought that what if she is telling the truth and we don't send her the money and my fiancee never becomes current. I have never before been more troubled in my life.

The adress we gave was my father. He would definitely have told me if USCIS had contacted him! But if it makes you feel better, please do contact USCIS to confirm with them that they do not charge anyone for background checks and that this will not jeopardize your fiance's visa.

She is most certainly lying.

USCIS has no business conducting background checks on a person simply because they've been listed on the DS-260 form. USCIS authorized background checks (usually carried out on the person seeking immigration benefits) does not cost $200, it is $85. And I bet upon further probing she will claim they called her, again a practice which USCIS does not engage in.

This forum has actually clearly opened my eyes on this issue. Truth is, I was already on the verge of sending her the money. Thanks a million times to you all. I have contacted a former classmate of mine who has filled in the gap. The visa bulletin is out and she is not current for December as Africa is at 17000. I can be confident with 19***, she is a sure candidate for January. Thanks a lot guys. Aside, I did not expect it to be below 19000 for December. This is showing some signs they may not get to 81000 this time around.
