Background Check pending

I have my 485 pending for approval. MyPrioirity date is 16-April-2001 /EB3.
I got my finger printing done last year in oct 2006. As well received my AP, work card last year. Thery are expirting in Dec, so a I filed the renewal in Sept.

Question:
1. How long is the wait for AP/Work Card nowadays.
2. I made a query on my Case in September as Dates are current. I received the response that " There is a delay on your case. We cannot make the decision on your case as Background check is pending." Does this mean name check..... When does name check process triggers ? Is there a way to inquire about this name check.... will infopass appointment help?

1. My EAD recently took 100 days and my AP 140.
2. Yes, you are in name check. Infopass appt will merely confirm this. Given that your case has been pending for more jhan 6 months, it would seem lifely that you are STUCK in name check, as otherwise, you would have passed thata stage by now. Usaully, FP and name check are started about the same time.
