Background Check for US Citizen Petitioner/Immigrant

I was wondering if anyone knows what affect the U.S Citizen petitioner's background has on the AOS application process. I would also like to know if a background check is done before the application is accepted? I know the biometrics are done after but is there a background check before as well and is there a background check done in the immigrant's country?
BTW I am not in trouble but just trying to get an idea why the acceptance may be taking so long....are they possibly waiting for information from my country etc?

USC and LPR petitioners filing I-130's for a spouse and child(ren) and a USC filing an I-129F for a fiancee (or spouse) and child(ren) do get a background check as required by the Adam Walsh Act. This is to prevent violent criminals and sex offenders and child molesters from victimizing an unsuspecting spouse/fiancee and children, especially stepchildren.

Okay that is understandable and a great thing actually. Do you think the hold up could be them doing a check in my home country which could take some time? I look at others tracking times and most receive NOA's in a week. Tomorrow will make me 2 weeks and I have had no feed back from USCIS.

No they have not cashed the checks nor have they sent NOA's. I did apply for myself and my son. Do you think that matters?

Well its actually 14 days ago they received the package but hopefully I will hear something this week. Thanks for the encouragement!

Kacy1 I would recommend creating an account in the USCIS website, they will send you e-mail alerts when any movement happen in your applications and they can be sent even to your Smartphone and is free. I did that and it saved me some sleep.

I sent in the G1145 form so they should email or text me. I just had a bad day yesterday thinking what could be wrong since so many people hear back from them in a week and today is 2 weeks but I will be patient and wait because that's all I can do :) thanks!

just to update you guys who responded to my post. I called USCIS and they said I have to wait for 30 days. I also called a lawyer who said I should not panic as the office here in VA has lots of problems and the application process is extremely slow. Now I know I have to exercise PATIENCE!

TheRealCanadian do they do background check on you if its your first time entering the country and if they do so why, i know they ask for a police clearance in your home country..
