Hi all, can my wife start babysitting work in our home with EAD? Is it considered as home-based self business or something? She will probably make very small income out of this and I will report this in my tax return. Is there anything else we need to do? Please comment..thanks

She can do the babysitting(child care ) business on EAD but check other statutory requirements like;..
1)if she is babysitting only for friends and relatives babies (aong with with your child if any)if it can be a non remunerative baby sitting --then it may not need any thing more .But if she generally babysits others also and recieve remuneration (officially) and takes care more than certain number of babies, you may need a license depending on your state.
(home based definition is having limitation of no. of babies and some other things).
(Check your state laws on child care/babysitting and licensing requirements
for the person and also facility before going for this ).
2)Check IRS treatment for that type of income as individual org.
(if applicable).

not a leagl advise.

Thanks Participant for valuable info.
1. I checked with state requirement, state does not need license for
babysitting (child care) 4 or less children. THat's good!!

2. Don't know how to check for IRS treatment for that type of income as individual org. Probably have to talk with some TAX consultant. I was just thinking about filing Jointly and adding that income.

Though it may be trated as similar individual type of work, better talk to a
tax/cpa consultant,if possible for you(you have ample time if your not starting that in this fiscal year).
It gives a more clear outlook in all your tax fronts.
General info' at the link(this may not be required as an org.in your case but still..read this).

thanks....I will probably have to take the help of a tax consultant when I file tax return for this as it falls under self employed (small business) category. Not straight forward case as I thought initially. Thanks for info.

my wife will be working at an individual family and not at a registered day care center. Does she still require to obtain EAD ? She is being told by the father of child that he will show it in their tax returns about her baby sitting charges. She will also getting the money using cheque. Now is it necessary to obtain her EAD ?
