My wife is a canadian citizen and she entered united states on a B2 visa. How can I apply for a change of status from B2 to H4?

Thanks,
Sidharth

Sidharthv,
She entered with a B-2 visa or status? Canadians only need visas for K and E status entries. If you want her to get H-4 status (not visa), all she has to do is leave the US, re-enter with your H-1B approval notice and your marriage certificate. She will be issued an I-94 with H-4 status.

Thanks for your reply.

This is eaxctly what I was told earlier. I entered teh United States with her 2 weeks back with my marrige certificate and my approval notice but the immigration officer at the NJ port of entry told me that he cannot give her a H4 status at the port of entry and she has to enter on a B2 status. He also told me that she will need to apply for a change of status and apply fro a H4 status.

Hmmm...that does not make sense. Not to me. The officer saw your I-797 and still did not issue your wife an I-94 with H4 status? I assume, your wife got no I-94 at all, like all other Canadians visiting the US? Either the officer made a mistake, or there is some ruling that I am not aware of.
