Hello,

I am a software engineer who wanted to visit my brother and relatives in the USA. I was to travel with my infant son, who has a separate passport

My application for B1/B2 was rejected in May 2010. However, there is no stamp on either mine or my son's passport. I wish to apply again in January

The following is the dialog that went between myself (me) and the officer(Int)

Int:So why do you want to visit the US
Me:I wish to visit my relatives, especially my grandmother. I would also like to visit my brother who is studying in the US
Int: But you have mentioned that you have a sibling, a brother who is LPR(Legal Permanent Resident).
Me:Yes, it is the same brother I want to visit.
Int: What is he studying
Me: He is doing his PhD in XXX in YYY (I didnt go into specifics)
Int: How come he is a LPR while a student
Me: My grandmother sponsored my mother and him. SHe is a US Citizen
Int: Is your mother in the US
Me: No she is here
Int: SO how did that happen?
Me: My aunt who is a US citizen, sponsored my grandmother, who after becoming a citizen sponsored my mom and her family
Int.:SO how come nobody sponsored you
Me:I have been sponsored before being married, but since I have been married for the last 5 years and settled in Goa with my husband, it is no longer applicable, and I do not wish to take it up.
Int:Where are you settled with your husband?
Me:We live in Goa.
Int.: What does your husband do?
Me: He is a govt employee
Int:In which department
Me: XXX.
Int:And what do you do?
Me:I am a software engineer
Interviewer takes out the rejection form from the rack and stamps it.
Int:In my judgement this time you are not being granted a visa since we do not find you adequately settled in your profession. However, this is my judgement, and if you do not agree, you may reapply.
Me: When can I reapply
Int: I would advice you to reapply once you are better settled professionally in your career.

Could he have been referring to my salary since I was to take a self-sponsored trip? Would it be advisable to go for a trip sponsored by my uncle who has been a citizen for the last 10 years?

You failed to overcome 214(b). Consul was not convinced you would return in a timely fashion. B-2 visas are self-sponsored. Re-apply only if there is a significant change in your circumstances.
