Hi All,

I have heard that a person on B-1 can not change her/ his status to anything else while living in US. Is that true ?

I came to US 2 months ago on B-1 visa. I am thinking to go to MBA program here and want to change my status to F-1.

Would my application to CoS be rejected ?

Please advise.

PK.

changing from B1 to F1 means you are changing your intent. when you applied for b1, on the application form you have checked the box that your intent is not to study in usa.
I beleive maximum people do change there intent the same way. your COS depends upon the university who will apply for you but one thing make sure dont leave us even if u get F1.
But the odds of CoS are in your favor i think. It is always better to get advice from a counselor or attorney. God bless you.

the odds are NOT in his favor. The COS will most likely be denied. The way to COS from B1/B2 to F1 is to first notify the POE officer and he would annotate the I-94 accordingly. Go back home and apply for an F1 visa.

You can apply for a COS but don't overstay the time on your I-94. If your COS request doesn't get processed by that time, leave the US (which means you abandon the COS), get the visa stamp, and return in F1 status.
