inside the building during the interview, or do they have to wait somewhere else? And do they still disallow cellphones with cameras?

At Detroit DO -

No cellphones with camera
Spouses / children are allowed inside the bldg, but will have to wait in the waiting area (during your interview).
 
Same rules in Dallas -- no cellphones, no cameras, but spouses and spouses minding children are allowed.
 
In Chicago I was able to take my cell phone into the USCIS building. In fact I had to switch it to vibrate just before the interview commenced.
 
NO CAMERA CELL PHONES - I went for my interview today at 630 Sansome. You have 2 options; walk back to car and leave cell there or they will take it from you (and that is the last time you are going to see the cell phone). Later I got to know there was a third option as well - walk across the street and they will hold on to your cell phone for $3.
 
Hey, thanks for the replies, guys. I'm going to assume my wonderful spouse can be in the same building with me during the interview. Depending on whether the interview is a success or not, we can either celebrate or commiserate. Hopefully it will be the former.
