thank your for your valuable opinion. i do have a school certificate from india which states my place of birth to be calcutta and i have a brith certificate as well from calcutta. what would happen if i tell them now that my actual birthplace is india and not bangladesh as on my passport.

Joseph,

It is better not to lie. Show your passport and also let they know you were born in India. Talk to your lawyer.

Hire an attorney. You should have an attorney for your asylum case regardless of this particular issue.

As far I remember you wouldn't be eligible for Indian citizenship even if you were born in India. Usually in Southeast Asia children have their citizenship based on what their parents citizenship is. If your parents were Indian citizens then you should be eligible for Indian citizenship. If they were bangladeshi citizen the you would be bangladeshi.

As you have a bangladeshi passport so I assume your parents were holding the same passport.

So I would suggest that just go with your pasport and with the birth place of bangladesh. I am sure you would have a birth certificate from bangladesh also.
