Hi everybody,
so as I said in former posts, I got my recommended approval in less than a week after my interview and never heared back from the asylum office again, I wrote to them many time with no response and finally went to inquire in person three times.

everytime they said my background check in pending and I should come back in 3 months and its always the same answer, right now i'm employed by the federal government and as all federal job mine required a background check and a security clearance( minimum clearance becuase i'm not a US citizen but it still a clearance) and that was done in less than two months, so i went back to the asylum office and they gave me the same answer but when i told them where I work they double checked and said that everything is done and its bending one more final step and it should be done in three weeks

two months later and still no answer, so this is what I want to do and please if anyone can help share your thoughts
I decided to go ahead and request and appointment with either the Asylum Office Director or the Deputy Director to see what is hapening! all what i'm asking for is a yes or no answer, I'm having a hard time as i'm i'm sure all of you guys are, I do want to go back ( to a neighboring country) to see my parents my dad just had a quadruple bypass surgery and I'm not sure how much time he has and I havn't seen him in years!! plus many other things that I can't do here cuz my SSN card has the work Authorization note typed on it ( which I have ) but still some banks won't accept to give you a loan or a mortgage or even open an account for me ( some do some dont )
plus many many other things that I dont want to bother you guys with, the qustion is does any one know to get to meet the Asylum Office Director or the Deputy Director? my asylum office is Arlington VA, anyone ever tried to do that before? do you guys think it will help at all? or will they even let me meet them? I mean they are public servants after all and we should be able to right ?

Most federal government jobs require US citizenship or at least LPR status. I don't know how you got that job.

I have 2 suggestions for you to speed up the process for your pending final approval:

1. Explain your situation to the congress representative in your city. They will help you and they might contact the asylum office director. USCIS is required to respond to them with a clear answer. They usually respond to the congress inquiry within 48-72 hours.

2. Ask the federal agency that hired you to intervene and help you.

If you write a letter on your own, you will not get an answer. They will either ignore you or give you a vague answer.

Your first step is to make an appointment with your congress representative in your city and explain to them your situation in details.

Assylum,

I've been hired based on the Executive Order 11935
" only United States citizens and nationals (residents of American Samoa and Swains Island) may compete for, and be appointed to, competitive service jobs. With Office of Personnel Management approval, agencies are permitted to hire non-citizens when there are no qualified citizens available. A non-citizen hired in the absence of qualified citizens may only be given an excepted appointment, and does not acquire competitive civil service status. He or she may not be promoted or reassigned to another position in the competitive service, except in situations where a qualified citizen is not available. The non-citizen may be hired only if permitted by the appropriations act and the immigration law."

My agency said the only option they have is to cancel everything and get a J1 status but they advised that this should be my last resort because its under a whole different act and will force to quit my job and then get rehired which is something I can't really afford,

I was thinking of driving to Arlington office tomorrow, if they don't give me an answer ( which I think that would be case ) then I'll write to my congress representative and seek to meet him/her

thank you for your respond

hi I have almost same story

I am also a full time student ,came to US on jan 2008 and havent beet to my country yet.I applied for political asylum last november 2010 and got interviewed on dec 1st.I was supposed to get my result in dec 15th but instead another officer asked me some more questions for half n hr on which I answered some of them incorrect cause it was all related to my father ,after all I am human being rite? After that I havent got any response and when I go there to get some information to the uscis office they tell me nothing but to wait ,they always say that my result would be poster through mail.I once asked them if I can apply for workpermit they said I cant whereas one of the lawyer told me I can since its been more than 150 days I have filed for asylum. It has become very difficult for me because they neither say its denied now its pending,I mean I havent got the clear view whether its pending or denied or what so ever.If any one could suggest me on this one it would be a great help
