Is the Asylum Approval date backdated to the day of interview ? or the day the background check has finished and approval letter sent ?

The grant is effective as of the date of the approval letter.

The approval date is written on the approval letter (I remember it should be on the new I-94 card, maybe also on the approval letter), but does not have to be exactly the same date as the letter issued. The letter is dated right at the day you go to pick up the result, and normally not the asylum approval date.
