Are E-2 spouses now allowed to work without the EAD ?

Hi,

I have an E-2 visa and got married recently, my wife now has an E-2 spouse visa. My wife would like to work here and we are not sure whether she's allowed to do it without the EAD.
I know that in the past the EAD was required for E-2 spouses but I heard that this has changed recently.
Does anyone have more information about that ?

I saw on the following page of the ssa website that it should be OK, but can anyone confirm :

My wife has a social security card that bears the legend, "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION." (Mine is exactly the same).
Does this mean that she's allowed to work without the EAD ?

It means showing SS card is not enough for I-9 verification.
She needs EAD.

E-2 spouse has to file I-765 under (a)17 category.
