But I think possibly because clueless called his congressman, who asked every detail for him, and also probably helped his case get assigned.

Congratulations!

Regarding you EAD renewal, you probably will not be able to cancel you application and get your money back.

However, as a courtesy, you may send a letter along with a copy of you receipt notice asking that the case be withdrawn. True, BCIS will deny your I765 anyway base on your I485 approval. But doing so will save their time and benifit others who are waiting for their EADs.
