Hi,
I am going to apply soon for my citizenship on the basis of marriage to USC. I have a 11 yr old daughter. Do I apply /file separately for her? I could'nt see any column for dependant children in the N400 form . Or am I missing something?

Thanks .

YOUR naturalization is a prerequisite for your LPR child (unmarried and under age 18) to obtain citizenship through you. It is premature to think about filing for your child UNLESS that child became a citizen through the other parent.

AFTER you naturalize, IF your child is otherwise qualified, she will gain automatic citizenship and the USCIS form to file would be the N-600. At this point just concern yourself with your own N-400.

A variety of possibilities would need to be checked to see what benefits your child gets. She is only 11 so, there is time to deal with it later. The N-600 process would address all the possibilities.

Just get your citizenship now. Your child still has time to become a US citizen. She may either get it though you or the other parent. N-600 (Application to obtain certificate of citizenship through parents) needs to be filed in case of your child, in order to document the citizenship status.

There is a section on the N-400 to list your children. At this point you don't file anything else for your child's citizenship.

Once you naturalize, your child will derive citizenship under the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, provided she has a green card and the other conditions of the CCA have been satisfied. Then you can file for N-600 and/or a US passport for her.
