Hi Atique,

It is nice to start seeing some of the familiar names. Gook luck on your N400 application. I received my gc a couple months after you so I will be applying usc soon myself.

Thanks Chong. Yes our GC journey is over few years back now the final destination. We'll all be there soon or later.

Dear Atique,

This is finally happening for you, too. I wish you the best of luck with your application and the interview. You truly deserve it.

Hello Atique,

Good to see you pal. I remember your G.C struggle back in the day. Your postings used to be really depressing lol. And now it is finally happening for you. But let me tell you this, N-400 process is so smooth and quick. Nothing compare to what we had to go through for G.C. You will be a U.S Citizen before you know it.

Interview day tips:

* Take the day off if possible, try to relax (I know it is hard to do).

* Gather all the supporting documents and have them ready 2 days before your interview.

* Review 100 questions as much as possible (play that CD in your car, I find it really helpful).

* Take 2 extra pictures just in case.

* Review the copy of your N-400 few times (sometimes officer confuses you with the dates etc).

* Pray before you leave home.

* Get to the parking lot an hour early and review everything before you enter the building.

* Be respectful, make your replies short and to the point, don’t give out extra information.

* If you have the sameday Oath, don't apply for the U.S Passport the same day. They will make you send the Original Certificate with the passport application which I wasn't comfortable with. Come home, make a color copy (proof in hand) of it and apply the next day at the local Post Office. Less headache :)

I am sure you will do fine. Good luck!!

Noman.

You sent out a color copy of your naturalization certificate and not the original one for your passport application? If so, did they still issue your passport by looking at colored copy?

No I think he meant is. Come home, make a copy for your records so that you do have evidence that you are a U.S Citizen. If you apply for passport right after your oath, they take your Naturlization certificate and you have no proof to show your family members that you are a U.S Citizen ;) And we all know most middle easter/indian/pakistani or south asian families love to see the evidence before they congratulate you ;)

I think my family members would believe me without showing proof.. :p
but having a copy for your own records is still a good idea.. :)

Congratulations

Congratulations Atique on starting your citizenship process

My time for citizenship will not come until June 2012. I just hope it is a smooth process for you and keep us all up to date. I hope you do not get stuck in name checks because of your muslim name, even though USCIS has eliminated its background check backlog. Can you please keep us posted with regards to that ? Thanks...

Hi Lazer,

Yea I sent a color copy and got a denial letter in color lol

Wantmygcnow is absolutely correct. I wanted to have a proof in hand before sending out originals. I had to wait for that piece of paper for a long time and I was in no mood to let it out of sight without some sort of proof. Plus my desi relatives weren't ready to accept me as a U.S Citizen without seeing atleast a color copy LOL

I don't think he would be stuck because of his muslim name. I have a muslim name and I have never had a problem.
