I have a bachelors degree in Business Economics and Computer science was my minor. Graduated from US university. RIght now i am working in a Company, where i work as a Risk Analyst, require more of computer knowledge than my Economics.

Right now, i am not sure if my degree would hinder my application prospect for H1. DO i have to have Tech related degree to get H1? or they can get it with proper paperwork?

I am asking this becos i need to plan to go back to school in Fall if there is no prospect in getting H1.

I am currently in OPT. Please advice. And if i should go back to school, then will it help if i do masters in Economics or should i do something related to Software field.

thanks for your time.

It all depends on the Labor petition for the H1. If a job states clearly that you need to have a degree in Comp Sc. it could be a problem.

Thanks for the quick reply!! On my job description it states that theey were looking for someone in business Economics or finance filed with strong Computer proramming and Statistical and analytical knowledge.

will that fly with BCIS? My concern is that, with my job description i should be OK, since my major was Economics and minor was computer science and i had several programming classes. But is it gonna be ok with BCIS about someone with Economics getting H1?

thanks once again.

Don't see a reason for a problem but that is only my best guess. Since this is an immigration matter why don't you pass this by your employing company's lawyer to make sure that it fits the bill.

For h1b visa , 4 years bachelor's degree is must. If you see from 1996- 2002 most ( 80-90%) of the foreigners come to US as "computer Programmer" do not possess any computer degree (not even 4 yrs degree, they have only 3 yrs BSc Chemistry, physics, Botony , BCom, BA Corporate Secretary , History etc with some training/certificate in a computer institute of course with experience).

Economics is a vital major for finance. Since your job requires finance background there will be no problem with a US BS degree. If you have any US certification other than degree, which is very much considered in the INS.
