Your parents Birth certificate, it is very important. If they dont have one, geta Non Availalibity Certificated, and 2 affidavits, Their Rashen card(tell them to bring it with them)
Did you look in to CP? It is better to do a CP. It is up to you.

Do THEY want to move permanently to the U.S. or are you merely being pushy and forcing this on them? Are they actually prepared at this time to just stay forever?

Well, if this really is a spontaneous decision and they are prepared and willing, you forgot the advance parole (AP) application. Without AP, they may not depart the U.S. until the whole process is over or it will be denied as abandoned and they will have to go through CP abroad before they can return.

Thanks for reminding me about the advance parole.

why is CP better than AOS?

Another big factor is LOGISTICS. Can you afford to go back and forth on long international flights two or three times in rapid succession? Does the alien parent have all required documents? IF "yes" why did they bring them on a tourist visa (vacation/holiday trip)? IF one is planning to stay forever, what happens to their property back home? It's hard enough to move across town, it is much more involved to immigrate to a whole other country on the spur of the moment.

If a ton of advance planning happens then one should expect to be accused of fraud when claiming that the idea to adjust was spontaneous.
