AOS interview 4/25 -Interview experience

4/25/07 post interview
Will be having my AOS interview on wed. Any advice from people who had their interviews would be appreciated.

4/25/07 after interview . . . .
Well, I passed and I'm sooooo happy that I did. It seems like I will be having a new life after getting approved. Well here is my interview experience. . . .

Interview appointment was at 11am. Went through the security check point and was told no cell phone with a camera is allowed in the building. Took my wife's phone and mines and left it in the car. Ran back to the security check point and the security was jokingly asking me if I really left the phone in the car because it only took me less than a few mins. to get back. I told him I did, you can check me if you want? Passed through the metal detector and went to the office.

We got into room and another security was in the front of the big room where everyone was waiting. He asked if we had an appointment told them yes. Showed the appointment letter and ID and was told to drop the appointment letter in the drop box. After dropping off the letter someone will come by and stamp the time on the appointment letter to make sure you arrive before your interview time. I think my letter was stamped around 10:40am. Now we were just waiting to be called. . . .After almost 2 hours of waiting, we were called in @ 12:30pm. IO(Immigration officer) apologizes to us for waiting that long. IO explained prior to our interview, the couple ahead of us were late so interview appointment time was backed up due to the late couple. We told the IO that it was fine. IO took us to the office where the interview will take place. I thought it will be a small tiny cubicle guessed not.

When we got into office my wife sat already, IO asked my wife to stand and made us take the oath. IO then started her interview. . Verified if my wife's name and SS is right asked me the same thing. Verified my father and mother's name. Then the questions started. .
Asked for my passport?
Asked me if I was ever arrested?
Been in a communist party?
In a gang?
How did we meet each other?
When did we meet?
How come she let me pick her up at her house on the first time we met?
Was she comfortable that she let me pick her up at her house for the first time?
Where did we go?
Why did we go there?
Why did she pick me to be her husband?
What qualities do I have?
Why did I pick my wife?
Asked for files.

Showed IO copies I also have originals with me. .

Wife’s Birth Certificate and State Driver’s License (IO TOOK)
Marriage Certificate (IO TOOK)
Proof of Residence (IO TOOK)
Life insurance with one another as primary beneficiary (IO TOOK)
Health insurance Card (IO TOOK)
Vehicle certification of Title (IO TOOK)
Vehicle registration Notice (IO TOOK)
joint bank statements (IO TOOK)
Tax Returns (2004,2005,2006) (2006 IO TOOK)
Copies of Paycheck Stubs (last three issued) (IO TOOK)

When was the last time I entered U.S.?
Asked me if I ever went out of the country?
Made it clear that if I was lying about leaving the country that they will find out. I told the IO that I never left the country since I got here. IO was making sure that I wasn't lying because prior to my interview the couple ahead of me was asked the same thing. They said no, and there was a lot of pictures of them in MEXICO. .
Asked for photos? IO took a lot of pictures.
Just asked what was the event on the photos.
IO saw pictures of me and my friends and asked me again if I was in a gang?
Are you sure? I said no of course. I think she just wanted to make sure because I'm bald.
IO looked at the files they have and said my petition is approved anyways so IO is approving my GC! :)

SHowed I-751 paper on how to remove condition. Congratulated us on getting my GC and just made copies of my passport. IO also took my i-94.

To everyone who is still in the process keep your hopes up. Don't lose hope. This site is VERY HELPFUL!

(1) Don't lie
(2) Don't guess...."I don't know" or "I don't remember" are acceptable answers
(3) Don't volunteer any information not asked for
(4) Short and simple answers
(5) Relax

Don't be nervous.
If you already submitted lots of evidence to prove the truth of your marriage, especially joint account, joint ownership, they will give you easy time.
Good luck.

Congrats! It was not as hard as you thought before, right? Actually it was kind of easy and simple. My IO even made some jokes with us, she also had a radio playing background music.
Anyway, Congrats!. I got my welcome mail yesterday and my card had been ordered on 04/25

Thanks.Yes it wasn't that hard. My wife was a lot more nervous than I was. It was weird because IO ask my wife a lot more questions than me. Anyways, I'm so happy :D . . Nice for you to get that letter in the mail huh?

Initial vs Final Interview

Hi all,

I am a US Citizen and my wife is on H-1. We applied for her
Green Card around 2 months back.

Fingerprint appointment is Tomorrow (6/23) and the
Initial Interview is on the coming Tuesday (6/26).

The letter that we got from USCIS says that it is
an Initial Interview. They asked us to bring all the
original documents (copies of them are submitted
with our application)

Is this the final interview ? Or there are going to
be two interviews, one Initial where they check
all the documents and a final one.

Thanks for your help

The initial interview is just "the interview" usually there is only one.

But if you fail this interview or the IO has reasons to believe your marriage was not entered in good faith. He will schedule for a "stokes" interview where you and your wife will be asked questions separately and then your answers will be compared.

.
how did your interview go?

Our Interview went really smoothly.

The officer asked for the following,
1. Citizenship certificate, marriage certificate.
2. My wife's driver's license.
3. Joint documents to prove the marriage.

He didn't ask for any marriage photos. Then he approved
the case. The entire interview took around 15 mins.

We got the green card in mail yesterday. Thanks to
all for your advice.
