AOS for Mother

Hi,

My widowed mother is now in the US on a tourist visa, I am a US citizen and wish to keep her permanently here, I want to apply for I-485 (AOS), someone please educate me in detail about the process and how to go about it, how long does the process take and what are the documents I need to furnish with the I-485 application?

My mother did not have any prior intention to migrate to the US, but as she is 70+ years and no one to take care of her back in India, I would like to keep her with me permanently.

Out of curiosity, what are your plans for her medical care?

The main forms to file are I-130 and I-485. It is recommended to also file I-765 and I-131. Each of these forms have their own supporting documents requirements. All of them should be sent in one envelope. The most difficult document to get would probably be your mother's birth certificate. The process could take several months or longer (but as long as she's here, why does it matter how long it takes?).
