Any options, if OPT expries before OCT 1

Hi,

I have recently graduated with a Master degree and my OPT starts from 11th July; however, I am yet to receive an approval letter (it may take some time).
As of now I’m looking for a sponsor, but seeing the masters’ quota getting filled very fast I’m anxious and would like to get some advice.

Given that I miss this year’s quota and my H1b gets approved for 2007-2008, then on my OPT I’ll only be allowed to work till July 10th 2007.

Would like to know what options I have so that I can work and maintain my status after my OPT expires, for next three months till OCT 1.

If I don’t register for a summer class in a university I will get 60 days grace period but will be out of status for balance 20 days? Can I over stay and if I do will I have a problem when I go for stamping?

If I do get an I-20. Will simply getting an I-20 and enrolling with the school allow me to maintain my status and work for the company that I might be working then (or will I have to show and work as Intern)?

My fear is, if I miss this year’s quota then companies will hesitate to sponsor me; as they know that there will be a gap of three months till I’ll be allowed to work.

Pls advice.
Thank you.

Correct, it'll be out of status by 20 days.

Overstay is illegal. Having problem or not is up to the officer at consulate.. you have to disclose your overstay on DS-156 upon your visa application. So, do not overstay.
Additional note is if it was obvious you would not have any status upcomming H1 start date(oct 1), yoour change of status is likely denied. you have to get H1 stamp in this case.
Filling up the status gap til Oct 1 is only option if you do not want trouble.

If I first get I-20 for summer 2007 or fall 2007 and then file for H1 petition. Will that allow me for COS till OCT 1 2007?

Can I work as intern in summer?

And can I-20 for a community college work of it should be from some university?

Thanks
