Am I that unlucky?

I consider myself a lucky guy. I have a beautiful and loving wife, successful career, and great friends. However, when it comes to dealing with the immigration agency, I do not have any luck. It took me 11 years to get my green card and it was a long and tedious process- I will spare you the details. Now, it has been approx. 16 months since I applied for my citizenship (see details below) and did not get an interview yet. I am not sure why I am being delayed, and cannot lose my cool. Perhaps this is because I have an Arabic name? I got used to the inhumane treatment of the incompetent bureaucrats at the immigration agency. I cannot hide my disgust and resentment, but I learned to be patient. This time I will not seek desperate measures such as contacting a loser Senator or the freaken first lady. This time I won’t do anything but wait. I wanted to vote in this election but I do not care any more. All candidates are losers anyway

:D
You know, I was kind enough to schdule an InfoPass for my co-worker. She applied for Citizenship exact two year ago and she is from Coratia which is in part of Europe. She has an english name and nothing like anything sort of. She has been stuck in name check for about 22 months now and then when I took her for Infopass, the IO said:
" You have not waited long enough, I have seen some people come here and they have been waiting for 5 years and some for 7 years. Be patient and don't complain"
She was old and I couldn't say anything to her anyway (I was afraid she will get a heart attack).

But at least USCIS, sort of promised to work with FBI and actually they promised together to clear this nice line of name checks.

I hope it will happen soon and I am sorry for your long wait.

Be in peace

I seriously doubt that is the only reason causing the delay. My first name is Arabic and when translated means "The sword of Allah". My AOS took 11 months, my I-751 took 75 days and my N-400 took 4 months. So having an Arabic name does not always mean delays in name checks. If your name is common, then it may be responsible for the delay.

Perhaps this is because I have an Arabic name?

It usually is a factor of the service center also. You are in NYC which is a dem state. I am surprised why it should delay where Spitzer was planning to give driver license to illegals. Same in SF. I think guys support CAIR here. I would except middle America bible belt has more name checks

Hang in there greencarder. Your name check will be complete by this fall. Have you considered filing WOM if you're counting on citizenship?

This time I won’t do anything but wait.

greencarder,

That's exactly what they want you to do! That's what all abusers want their victims to do - be silent and patient, so abuse can continue forever.

Why don't you silently and patiently ;) get your paperwork together and timely file WOM? IMHO, it's more appropriate way to vent frustration than playing role of the victim.

File lawsuite, you can do it by yourself ( cost money) or with other people (cheap) you will have a response in no more than two months.

USCIS AND FBI RELEASE JOINT PLAN TO ELIMINATE BACKLOG
OF FBI NAME CHECKS
Partnership Establishes Series of Milestones To Complete Checks
WASHINGTON – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) today announced a joint plan to eliminate the backlog of name checks pending with the FBI.
USCIS and the FBI established a series of milestones prioritizing work based on the age of the pending name check. The FBI has already eliminated all name check cases pending more than four years.
“This plan of action is the product of a strong partnership between USCIS and the FBI to eliminate the backlogs and to strengthen national security,” said USCIS Director Emilio Gonzalez.
By increasing staff, expanding resources, and applying new business processes, the goal is to complete 98 percent of all name checks within 30 days. USCIS and the FBI intend to resolve the remaining two percent, which represent the most difficult name checks and require additional time to complete, within 90 days or less. The goal is to achieve and sustain these processing times by June 2009.
The joint plan will focus on resolving the oldest pending FBI name checks first. USCIS has also requested that the FBI prioritize resolution of approximately 29,800 pending name checks from naturalization applicants submitted to the FBI before May 2006 where the naturalization applicant was already interviewed.
The target milestones for processing name checks are:
Completion Goal Category
May 2008
Process all name checks pending more than three years
July 2008
Process all name checks pending more than two years
Nov. 2008
Process all name checks pending more than one year
Feb. 2009
Process all name checks pending more than 180 days
June 2009
Process 98 percent of all name checks within 30 days and process the remaining two percent within 90 days.

Hi
I thought of doing that, but I am not ready for any fights with bureaucrats.

Think of it as your legal right rather than a fight with bureaucrats. Many have successfully filed WOM and are now citizens. It all comes down to how important citizenship is for you , like are you waiting on citizenship to sponsor someone or if you're trying to apply for government employment. In the end you must decide whether you can wait several more months or if you wan to file WOM. Good luck !!

greencarder did your spouse's citizenship process complete?

HI GC,

are you and your spouse both stuck in name check?

me/spouse applied in 04/07..she got hers in 12/07 and I am stuck in name check.

so if she went through..it is just bad luck that you got stuck in name check.

--try www.intelius.com/yahoo people search and try your first/last name
see how many matches you find and the more matches the more probability you are stuck in name check.

I tried I found 70 matches with my name.

But hang in there..hopefully you will hear something in May

Best wishes

intellius and the FBI database have no correlation. Just because your name appears multiple times in intellius doesn't necessarily raise the chances your name will get stuck in name check. Considering that many applicants have common names and don't get stuck in name check is testament to this.

If that was the case then Sanjeev Kumar, Sanjay Singh, Rajiv Kumar, Rahul anything would never pass this name check.

My name has 4 addresses which is correct, but most of them were temporary.
