Air travel to Canada and extending your stay

My mom is visiting me on visitor's visa, and we want to extend her stay. Her current stay will expire on April 1, 2007.

My options are
1. File for extension - I am not sure if I am late for this.
2. Go to Canada and re-enter via air way - I am aware of at least one case where my aunt went from Seattle to Canada and re-entered via air travel. On her way back, she was given a fresh I-94 with a new stay date that was later than the original date.

Can any one else share their experience with regards to air travel to Canada and getting a fresh I-94?
 
For option #1, you are not late. USCIS recomends applying for EOS 45 days before the I-94 expires. So you have time for that.
Option#2 is also open. She can surrender the I-94 when she departs for Canada. Upon seeking re-entry, she will be given a new I-94 if the officer grants her entry. Does your mother have a Canadian TRV?
 
I think I will pursue option 1. If the reponse does not come from USCIS before her stay expires, which is Apr 1, does she have to leave OR can she stay till she hear back from USCIS ?

What do you mean by TRV? Do you mean travereller's visa? Asuuming that is what you meant, yes she has a visa stamped since Nov, but it is single entry and she has already used it. She went via road in Nov, and at POE the USCIS officer did not give her a new I-94. So she still has her original I-94. So if we go for the original option, then she will have to go for another visa stamp.
 
Your mother can stay until the I-539 is adjudicated.
TRV = Temporary Resident Visa (Terminology for Canadian visit visa).
