After receiving GC

Hi all,

I recently received my GC. The letter that accompanied it says that I must carry it with me all the time as it is the law. I'm a little uncomfortable carrying my GC in my wallet all the time. Is this really what everybody should do and they do?

Thanks.

I don't carry it. It's worth too much, and, unless you leave along the border with another country, or need it for some specific business, I wouldn't recommend that you carry it with you.

Ok here is what I would do if I was not confortable:

1) make a copy and laminate it
2) you can keep the alien number with you in case you lose it just go to the local office and say you lost it - and I am pretty sure they have procedure to get a replacement when you lose it like you DL.
3) call the local office and ask them the procedure what happens if you lose you GC.

Thanks

If you lose your GC, you have to apply for a replacement and pay a LOT of money. You also have to wait many months. The backlog is immense. I guess you don't have enough experience with USCIS to know what a hassle it is to have to deal with them unnecessarily... or do you?

I agree, I don't carry it either, just carry a copy... Its toooo much of a pain to get it replaced, having waited 7 yrs to get it in the first place I don't want to lug it around everywhere with chances of losing it :(

Please respond gogole

Hi,

I am also in kind of similar dilemma about porting the dates once the I-140 invoked. So did it work in your case?
