Hi guys,

My father has been living here in the states for 30 years and because of him i got a greencard. 8 years ago i had stayed out of the states for too long and my green card was taken from me. I came back into the states on a 3 month holiday visa and have never left. I have been working and paying taxes all along since then as i have a social security no. and im wondering is there a chance i could get it back and how would i do this?I'm 29 years old and Im originally from ireland if that helps, any help would be appreciated,

How many years ago did you return to the US on a 3 month holiday?

oh by the way i didnt actually live in the states when i had my green card, i visited my father every summer which enabled me to keep within the time frames of the green card conditions

thanks TC but do you think i may have a case to bring to a lawyer considering my father has lived here so long? Sorry but i really dont have a clue about these matters :)

Only if your father became a US citizen before you turned 18. But additional conditions would have to be met. Did he become a US citizen before your 18th birthday? What about your mother?

Country of birth can make a huge difference for obtaining another green card via employment or family, given that the OP is over 21 and not married to a US citizen.

Yes, but it's worth mentioning that it makes a huge difference only in the area of wait times. In terms of becoming eligible for a GC when otherwise not eligible, it makes next to zero difference.
