Yes, H1B is a dual intent visa, but that doesn't mean that you can work wherever you want on H1B once you've applied for AOS and that's what I was merely pointing out.

If (s)he wants to change jobs and/or get some extra employment, (s)he needs EAD (and AP at the same time, if there's need for travel), unless I'm missing some new developments and changes in law here. ;)
 
ttinatl, correct, the dual intent visa/status allows one to apply for residency while still being able to get a visa renewal without having to worry about showing immigration intent. Nothing related to the company one works for.
