Yes, H1B is a dual intent visa, but that doesn't mean that you can work wherever you want on H1B once you've applied for AOS and that's what I was merely pointing out.
If (s)he wants to change jobs and/or get some extra employment, (s)he needs EAD (and AP at the same time, if there's need for travel), unless I'm missing some new developments and changes in law here.
ttinatl, correct, the dual intent visa/status allows one to apply for residency while still being able to get a visa renewal without having to worry about showing immigration intent. Nothing related to the company one works for.
