Advice for Re-Entry Permit

Hey!

I am a 19 year old, and I received my green card about a year and a half earlier. I then stayed there for 6 months, and finally filed for a Re-entry permit (I-135) and returned to India. Since the re-entry permit gives me 2 years to return to the USA, I will have to go back in feb.

My question being, is there anything I can do so that I do not have to keep returning to the USA every 6 months after this re-entry permit expires. I mainly want to do this because I am currently enrolled in an educational institution here for my undergrad degree.

Is there anything I can do in regards to extending or renewing my re-entry permit so that I do not have to keep visiting USA every 6 months. I will be returning to the USA after 2 years once I am done with my undergrad degree.

I appreciate any advice and / or links that can help me out with this question.

Thanks ;)

A reentry permit can be extented.
Finishing your studies seems a reasonnable cause.

keep visiting USA every 6 months
Coming to the US every 6 months is NOT enough. Some people get away with it, but most don't. You are saying it yourself: you would be more like a vistor and not a LPR.
It is a very dangerous thing to do if you truly want to come back to the US.

but only for another year.

since you are studying in a full time program and you are not working in the foreign country, it is enough for you to keep coming back once a year. Do have proof with you that you reside in the US, and that you are outside the US only temprary - university records, family in the States, filing taxes in the States, keeping an address in the States, State ID, etc.

After the first re-entry expires, you can apply for another one which will be valid for two more years from the date of issue. This should give you enough time to finish your studies and return.

I am actually studying in a full time program and working a considerable amount as a freelance consultant. So in my case it really is nearly impossible to find time to travel to the USA before my college course is complete.

I have university records in and out of the US (I studied in the US for a year before I returned to India and will be continuing my course there after 2 years). I also do have family in the states and maintain a bank account in the USA and am filing taxes. I also have a state id and an address in the states.

Is there any way to file for an extension to my re-entry permit from India, or do I need to return to the USA before I can file for an extension.

Can someone please direct me towards the procedure and other requirements for this.

Thanks a lot for the help.

if you are working (not on a temporary work visa) that means you have taken up residence in the other country and you abandoned the residency in the States.

There is no basis to your assertions. It is not whether person is employed or not outside the US, but rather intent to return to the US to live permanently, that matters. Having reentry permit is an excellent proof of such an intent.
