Adding Spouse to I-485

I recently got married and would like to add my wife to I-485 which I filed befor marriage. Does adding wife to your I-485 delays the processing or the processing carries on but your spouse gets her green card later than yours?

The processing will continue and you will get your GC within the normal course of time. However, your wife will have a different 485 RD and so, will get the GC later.

Congrats!

As "UpState_NY" mentioned already, your processing time won't be delayed. However, regarding your wife's processing time, there are lots of factors.

- If your file (application) is started being reviewed before you added your wife, probably your wife will get it later (remember, RD does not mean that "file is being reviewed". The file remains in the selves untouched for a while. For example, in CSC most of the 2002 applications are still in selves).

- BCIS mainains an annual quota for I485 approval. If your application falls within the quota, and your wife's application does not, then your wife may have to wait much longer time than you (until next fiscal years starts).

- service center (as Jaxen mentioned) and the officer who processes the application. For this kind of add-on situation, I feel, there only two things to review - FBI report and marriage certificate (to check if the marriage is fraud or not). But some officer (and service center) may take hell of time to review these two things.

Hope that won't happen for you, you will get approval together.
