Accidentally Entered Wrong Birth Year in DV2026 Application!

I mistakenly entered my birth year as 1921 instead of 1981 in my DV2026 application. Will this prevent my entry from being valid? If I win, will this be a problem during the consular process? I only submitted one application.

There is no upper age limit, so it won't stop selection, and if selected you can enter the correct DOB. So see if you are selected.

My place of birth is mistakenly done on my birth certificate so it is now different from my Dv lottery forms. My question is will it be possible to change it when I win the lottery ?

My Dad is from Nigeria (ineligible country for DV lottery) and my mum is from Ghana (eligible country for DV lottery). I was born in Ghana but raised in Nigeria. I had all my school in Nigeria. I recently got my Ghana birth certificate and international passport. Am I am qualified to be applying for DV lottery?

Where your parents are from is irrelevant in this case. All that matters is your country of birth as explained above. If you're born in Ghana, you are eligible to submit a DV entry.

However, if you get selected, be prepared for your selection to be highly scrutinized considering you recently obtained your Ghana B/C. The embassies are quite aware of how easy it is for some in countries like Ghana and Nigeria to obtain fake documents. I'm not saying your recently obtained B/C is fake, but the number one question on anyone interviewing you will be how come you never had your Ghanaian B/C all these past years? Which B/C have you been presenting prior to obtaining the Ghanaian B/C? A Nigerian B/C? If yes, did it list your place of B/C in Ghana? You don't need to provide an answer to me, but those are definitely some of the questions you'll need to be aware of.

Thanks for your response.

1. Actually all along I have been claiming Nigeria as my nationality since my dad is a Nigerian and we were based in Nigeria. I don't have a Nigeria B/C.

2. My younger brother won the dvlottery when Nigeria was still among the eligible countries. It was not till the result came out that we went to Nigeria National Population Commission to draft a letter serving as a birth certificate because he doesn't have B/C at that time. He claimed Nigeria at that time and he was granted the Visa.

In my own case that is why I did my Ghana International Passport and Birth Certificate since I can only claim eligibility based on where I was born which is Ghana.

So I want to start preparing for the next dvlottery. Should I get a Nigeria B/C listing where I was born in Ghana?
So please what do you advise? I just want guidelines please.

Thanks in anticipation.

Guess what, I actually happen to have quite an understanding of how things operate in Nigeria. I happen to know the NPC issues attestation of birth documents to folks born before 1990, which is what I’m guessing is what happened in your brother’s case.

Those folks however would have had a B/C issued by their respective local governments, or some form of document issued by the hospital where they were born which they could use as proof of birth in Nigeria. This non NPC issued document was generally in use, prior to the establishment of the NPC. And I’m willing to bet you had such a document. Considering you went to school in Nigeria, what did you use as proof of birth for school registration if you never had a Nigerian B/C? If I can see through this, you can bet a US consular officer can easily come to the same conclusion also.

Anyway, it is not my responsibility to tell you what to do in order for you to claim Ghana as your birth country for DV purposes.
