As long as you retain a lawyer, they should be the one drafting the letter for AC21 and mailing it to the INS. It involves legal issues and we pay the lawyer to take care of it.

The only time you can write a letter to INS directly while retaining a lawyer is when you want to update your address for a pending case. You can enclose a copy of the case receipt with your complete details, new and old address. Other communications should be routed through the lawyer. You just need to ask your lawyer to mail the AC21 letter to INS. That's all.

There is no form yet. Everybody is waiting for INS to come out with one. If you think you are savvy enough, you can inform INS on your own.
But you dont seem to be on the up and up on latest immigration issues...

$1000 for a letter? Seems kind of steep to me. Even at $350 per hour that's nearly 3 hours work. Do you think it will take that long? It depends on the letter, and what else you will be getting for the $1000.

Jim,

I was quoted $1500 for a FOIA letter (to get a copy of the LC/I-140 from the INS) in CA. Any comments?

I actually didn't pay the attorney the $1500 for the FOIA, since I opted to file the request myself (free). That didn't work, I'm wondering if the attorney has some other trick up his hat that will make it work. Or maybe I don't have standing?
